The connectivity price index

What the rate is.Price per gigabyte is a plan’s retail price in euros divided by its data allowance converted to gigabytes (megabytes are divided by 1,024). A country’s figure is the lowest such rate among the plans we sell there — the best value a traveller could actually buy today, not an average of plans nobody chooses.

What is excluded. Unlimited plans have no allowance to divide by, so including them would require inventing a denominator; all 3,110of them are left out of every per-GB figure on this page. Regional and global bundles are excluded too, because a rate for “Europe” cannot be attributed to any one country. That leaves 2,823 country-scoped metered plans, out of 5,933 country-scoped plans in total.

Which prices. Live retail prices in EUR, inclusive of our margin — what a customer pays at checkout as of this page render, 21 September 2026. They are not wholesale rates, not promotional prices and not local prepaid tariffs sold to residents; this is the cost of connectivity to a visitor buying a travel eSIM.

Median, not mean. The headline median is the middle value of the 210 per-country rates. A mean would be dragged upward by a handful of very expensive small markets and would describe no real country.

5G. A country is counted as having 5G only where a plan we sell there is sold as 5G by the partner network. Coverage within a country still varies by city and by handset; this measures availability on sale, not signal on the ground.

Recomputation. Nothing on this page is cached or hand-written. It is recalculated from the catalogue on every request, so figures move as our prices and coverage move.
